The Pakistan Marine Academy (PMA), Karachi, has announced admissions open for the 65th Batch of Nautical (Deck) & Marine Engineering Cadets for the Academic Session 2027-28. This is an excellent opportunity for young Pakistani men to join the Merchant Navy and build a rewarding maritime career while traveling the world.
Eligibility Conditions
- Unmarried male citizen of Pakistan
- Age not more than 20 years as on 31 December 2026
- Age limit for candidates from FATA/Gilgit Baltistan/AJK/Balochistan: not more than 21 years as on 31 December 2026 (one year age relaxation)
Academic Qualification
- Candidates must have passed F.Sc Pre-Engineering or A-Level with Maths, Physics & Chemistry, scoring at least 55% marks
- Candidates with O/A Level must submit an Equivalency Certificate (separate certificates for O-Level and A-Level) along with the application
- F.Sc/A-Level Part-II appearing candidates with at least 60% marks in Part-I may also apply, subject to a Hope Certificate from their college/institute head
- Candidates failing to attain 55% marks in F.Sc after submitting a Hope Certificate will be disqualified at any stage and discharged during training
- A-Level candidates failing to submit the Equivalency Certificate within the stipulated time will not be considered for further stages
How to Register
- Prospectus and application forms can be downloaded from www.pakistanmarineacademy.edu.pk or obtained from the PMA Admission Office
- Application forms must be submitted via Courier Service along with a pay order/bank draft of Rs. 4,000/- in favor of Pakistan Marine Academy, Karachi, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), PMA Branch Code-0239 (PO/DD from any bank acceptable)
Selection Procedure
Entrance tests will be conducted at Abbottabad, Gwadar, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Muzaffarabad (AJK), Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, and Sukkur through a hired testing agency.
The provisional selection process involves 4 mandatory stages:
- NTS/Entrance Test
- Medical Fitness (from Military Hospital)
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Interview
Additional Notes:
- Candidates must qualify each stage; failure at any stage results in disqualification
- Minimum 50% marks required to qualify the entrance test
- Medical examination of NTS-qualified candidates will be conducted at designated Army/Navy hospitals
- PET will be conducted after medical examination/fitness
- Only PET-qualified candidates proceed to interview
- Final merit is based on: F.Sc/A-Level percentage, Entrance Test marks, Medical Fitness, PET performance, and Interview score
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Standards

- Interview and PET dates will be updated on the PMA website and communicated to candidates via SMS
- Only candidates declared qualified for provisional admission will receive joining letters
- After joining PMA, all candidates will appear before the MMD (Marine Medical Department) for eye vision and colour perception tests
- Admission is confirmed only upon qualifying the MMD Eye Vision and Colour Perception Tests
- MMD failures will be returned home and their provisional admission cancelled

Branches are generally allocated according to individual choice, subject to MMD recommendations and seat availability.

Education & Training
- 02 years of residential training will be conducted at PMA
- Upon completion, cadets are awarded an Associate Degree in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering by NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi
- Certificates of International Maritime Organization (IMO)-recognized Pre-Sea Mandatory Courses will also be awarded
Ineligibility Criteria
- Submitting tampered academic certificates/mark sheets/documents
- Concealment of information or providing false/incomplete application details
- Withdrawal from any academy/training institution (including Armed Forces) on disciplinary grounds or weak academic performance
- Dismissed/Removed/Debarred/Resigned from Government Service, including Armed Forces
- Convicted by a court of law for offences involving moral turpitude or any other offence
- Non-combination of subjects and Diploma holders (DAE) are not eligible
- Declared medically unfit by an Armed Forces hospital/Appeal Medical Board
- Candidates declared colour blind
