The Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), a ‘AAA’ rated specialized financial institution with a network of over 500 branches across Pakistan, is inviting applications for the engagement of a Resident Shariah Board Member (RSBM) at its Head Office, Islamabad.

Maximum Age Limit: 61 years as on closing date

Required Experience

Minimum 4 years’ experience of giving Shariah rulings, including the period of Takhassus fil Ifta; or at least 5 years’ post-qualification experience in teaching or Research and Development in Islamic Banking and Finance. Preference will be given to candidates holding a certificate in Takhassus fil Fiqh/Takhassus fil Ifta.
Preference may be given to candidates with at least 3 years’ experience as Shariah Advisor or Member of the Shariah Board (SB) of any Islamic Financial Institution (IFI), or as a deputy to a Shariah Advisor/member of the Shariah Team.
Adequate understanding of banking and finance in general, and Islamic finance in particular.
Adequate understanding of Fiqh ul Muama’alat and Shariah-related issues.
Strong understanding of Islamic jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh) and Fiqh methodologies for deriving juristic opinions.

Required Qualification

Candidates must hold one of the following:

Shahadat ul Aalamiyyah Degree (Dars-e-Nizami) or a similar degree from a recognized institution/Board of Madaris, along with a Bachelor’s Degree (other than the Madaris degree)

Post-Graduate Degree in Kuliyyatush Shariah or Kuliyyah Usooluddin, LL.M. (Shariah), or equivalent from a recognized university

Shariah Scholar membership on the Shariah Board/Committee of an internationally reputed organization operating in another jurisdiction

Job Responsibilities

Provide explanation/clarification to management and staff of the Islamic Banking Institution (IBI) on products, documents, process flows, and other operational Shariah matters, in line with decisions, rulings, and fatawa already issued by the Shariah Board (SB)
Ensure management provides all necessary information and documents to enable proper understanding of products, processes, and Shariah permissibility
Guide the Shariah Compliance Department (SCD) in conducting Shariah compliance reviews of key business areas on a test-check basis
Review SCD’s responses to Shariah-related client queries regarding IBI’s products and services
Facilitate the SCD and Training Department in designing and conducting training activities
Submit at least a quarterly report to the Shariah Board for ratification of all material explanations/clarifications provided

Eligibility / Ineligibility Criteria

Maximum age limit: 61 years as on closing date to apply
Market competitive remuneration will be offered
Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview; no TA/DA admissible
Appointment will be on a contract basis for 3 years (extendable); detailed terms and conditions to be settled in the contract
